i am nothing but the walls around me

This body of work explores the push and pull of wanting to know who you are and wanting to be blissfully unaware of that. I am expressing feelings of fear and confusion through modes of painting, sculpture, drawing, and printmaking. To convey this, I use elements that allow for the interpretation of another side. Doors, windows, and glass blocks create this desire of wanting to pass through, yet the way is always obstructed. Within the maze that is oneself, these walls along the path, filled with potential ways of getting through, prevent these revelations. The colors stay muted to represent the fear and wariness of being on this journey. At times, the color becomes bright orange to signal clarity, the type of clarity to come from peak moments of frustration, to reveal nothing. These patterns of maze and glass reflections repeat throughout the body of work to show the constant repeated attempts of traversal past all these walls. These all become layers upon layers, thoughts upon desires, all to hide and obscure this truth.
